Ten Worst Events in the UFC History

Ultimate Fighting Championship has provided the platform to the fighters, they give spectacular performances in the octagon. These countless fights provide unforgettable experiences, as shown by the list of events held in the UFC. However, sometimes UFC bouts have to go through moments that create a worse impact and leave the spectators astonished.


MMA fights have always been violent and destructive but UFC makes it safe by following the rules and regulations. In this article, we will look at the ten worst fights of the ultimate fighting championship that went wrong, we will analyze what are the facts behind it, that have made it the deadliest fight in the history of UFC.

The event of UFC 264 was held among the two tough competitors Dustin Poirier and  Conor McGregor on July 11, 2021. The bout started as a normal fight, there was an exchange of strikes and punches. It seems that Conor McGregor has taken the dominant place on the podium, he used the massive kicks against his competitor. Soon Conor McGregor succeeded in holding Dustin Poirier with the triangle choke. But Poirier was quick enough to get out of it.


The spectators were excited to see the drastic changes in the bout. The two competitors soon started to hit each other with the strike of the punches. The ten-minute bout ended in five minutes as Conor McGregor broke his leg left leg while he was standing. The team came upon the stage to rescue McGregor. The fight was ended and Dustin Poirier won the bout of UFC 264.


The event of the UFC had a tragic ending, the worst moment was captured and seen by the spectators. Dustin Poirier gave an interview and blamed himself for the terrible injury, but the coach of McGregor believed that the kicks from the left leg were the main cause behind the injury.


Conor McGregor had a fracture he was on bed rest for almost a year. This incident had a terrible impact on McGregor's professional career. In addition to it, he might not be in the same form as he was before the dire injury.

On April 24, 2021, the event of  UFC was organized among the two dynamic fighters Uriah Hall and Chris Weidman. The two contenders were showing their competency in the octagon that has turned into a terrible end. This is the same event that has occurred with McGregor in UFC 264.


The incident of the leg break happened with Anderson Silva when he was competing against Chris Weidman. Now fate had decided to do the same with Weidman. After seven years Chris Weidman has faced the same tragedy.


The bout was in the middleweight division, as the bout started Chris Weidman used his right leg and kicked Hall in the shin area which is the lower part of the knee. As Weilman moved his leg in a backward motion, the leg was already broken and went in the right direction, which is naturally not possible. He could not stand on his leg and fell in the backward direction.


Chris Weidman has undergone unbearable pangs that resulted in the end of the fight as soon as it began. Uriah Hall won the event of UFC 261.


Weidman did not appear on the podium for half of the year, he has made a speedy recovery and started his training in less than two months. Some of people consider it a nonserious attitude, as Weidman has not been given enough time to recover his leg.

The third most heart-wrenching event of the Ulitmate Fighting Championship occurred in UFC 248. It was the year 2020, and two female contenders Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczykwas facing each other.


The cage fight was turned into an abnormal incident as there was a fierce exchange of punches and strikes. Zhang Weili has used her entire power to hit the face of Joanna Jedrzejczyk.


The greatest fighter in UFC Jedrzejczyk was passionate enough to face the severe punches on her face. The repeated punches on the forehead have created a worse and more terrible impact on her. Slowly and gradually the forehead of Joanna Jedrzejczyk has taken the shape of an alien.


Joanna Jedrzejczyk was affected by the hematoma in which the blood vessels under the skin became swollen and consequently gave the symptom of head trauma. Zhang Weili has damned a bunch of wrathful strikes at the same position of the forehead, that has created the effect of the extraterrestrial.


Joanna Jedrzejczyk has gone through restoration surgery, she had a speedy recovery and the mark of the injury was gone in just fifteen days. However, she was away from the podium for the next 60 days.


The match between Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk was arranged again in the octagon. 

4. UFC Ultimate Fight Night 2- Jonathan Goulet vs. Jay Hieron

UFC Ultimate Fight Night 2 started as a normal fight, nobody can even imagine that it would take the shape of the deadliest fight in UFC history. The bout started with a series of kicks and punches, they were landing strikes over each other.


Being a wrestler Jay Hieron was taking advantage he was a step further from his competitor. The first round of the bout went smoothly, as they were headed toward the second round it turned into the worst scenario. Just after thirty seconds, Jonathan Goulet used the knee strike that broke the forehead of Jay Hieron.


The fountain of blood started to shed very rapidly, the bout was stopped by the referee. Doctors examined the cut on the forehead and after that, the fight was continued. Jay Hieron was in the dominant position, but the blood was shedding profusely, and the cage was turned into a red pool.


As Hieron was landing the strikes over Jonathan Goulet were also turned red due to the continuous bloodshed. Both of the fighters were looking terrible but the fight went on. 

5. UFC 80- BJ Penn vs. Joe Stevenson

BJ Penn is a renowned fighter who is known for his tremendous performance. He can square off many contenders in the octagon of UFC. In the bout of UFC 80, he faced off against Joe Stevenson.


As the round began, after a few seconds BJ Penn used the right hand to land the strike on the forehead of the opponent that created a fissure in with the spurting blood. The scene has changed in just forty seconds.


The competitor was very passionate and let the fight continue in a normal mode. There was a rapid exchange of the jabs and crosses. Joe Stevenson was having difficulty looking, as the blood was shedding with a great force. He was unable to use accurate strikes. The spectators can see the blood everywhere inside the podium.


At the end of the round, BJ Penn has taken the dominant position in the cage and successfully mounted from the back of Stevenson. At last, Benn applied the submission method and won the bout. 

6. UFC 146- Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva

In the event of UFC 146, two competitors Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva faced off against each other. Back in 2011, Cain Velasquez was not able to win the title of the UFC heavyweight division, so a rematch occurred between the two.


The fight began with strikes and punches, from the beginning Cain Velaquez was in the leading position. Soon the fighters started to grapple, it became very difficult for Antonio Silva to escape from the submission.


Soon after that, Velasquez started to deliver the punches, he hit Silva with his giant elbow creating a narrow opening at the forehead. Velasquez has taken the advantage and targeted the forehand. He repeatedly hit that with a series of punches and elbow hits, which resulted in releasing more blood.


Antonio Silva's face turned scarlet and it was hard to figure out which technique he could apply to the opponent. This was because he was unable to see clearly. The fight was resumed for the doctors to examine Silva's condition, and the fight went back to where it was. After three and a half minutes the match was stopped, and the octagon changed its color to red.

Alistair Overeem and Jairzinho Rozenstruick squared off each other on December 7, 2019. The UFC on ESPN 7 brings about alot of terrible happenings that are marked in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.


The fight turned into a dramatic scene, as Jairzinho Rozenstruick used the strike of the right hand that split the lip of Alistair Overeem. This is considered the most insane moment of UFC. In the previous four rounds, Alistair was in the dominant position in the octagon but a few seconds before the end of round five, the whole scenario was switched with the one move of Jairzinho Rozenstruick.


It is one of the worst incidents that has ever happened in UFC. The lip cut of Alistair Overeem has changed the overall situation, all this happened because Jairzinho has put the entire weight on Alistair. The right hook of the hand resulted in the split of the skin over the lip and the scenario was completely changed resulting in the victory of Jairzinho Rozenstruick.

The event of UFC FN:156 brought about the horrible incident in August 2019. Two rounds of the bout went well like a normal fight, but as the third round began it brought about pernicious changes.


The event was set among the two contenders Vicente Luque and Mike Perry. Luque was in the dominant position, but a single hit turned the bout into a fatal incident of UFC. suddenly Vicente struck with a flying knee that targeted the nose of the opponent. Mike Perry's nose was brutally broken, it went in the extreme right direction and bent towards the cheek.


It is considered the most insane and memorable bout. The severe injury did not break the passion and determination of Perry, the bout was continued till the end. Vicente won the fight via split decision, both of the fighters showcased their strong determination and spirit, and got the title of fight of the night. 

9. UFC 74- Renato Sobral “Babalu” vs. David Heath

The UFC 74 created a bad impact in the UFC history with the memorable choke. The event of the Sobral and David bout has created a notable intensity in UFC. it is regarded as one of the bloodiest episodes which gave rise to wrath and grudge.


They had hard-fought rounds, and as the second round started Babalu gave eleven straights directly to the head of David. That created a wide opening right at the top of the head. David Heath was severely bleeding, his face was turned into scarlet and he could bearly see his competitor.


Soon the fight was shifted to the ground grappling, David Heath was trapped with a choke, and Renato Sobral grabbed his neck with the arm under his head. The wrath of Sobral has created the ironic scenario, he has choked David more than the required time limit. Consequently, Babalu has to bear a loss of staying away from the UFC.

10. The Ultimate Fighter 4 - Edwin DeWees vs. Gideon Ray

The event of Ultimate Fighter 4 is turned into the bloody fight of UFC. the bout took place between two passionate UFC fighters Edwin DeWees and Gideon Ray. After exactly two minutes, Edwin DeWeen was in the leading position.


Suddenly the forehead of DeWees had a split and started bleeding severely, the referees and the judges were perplexed, contemplating what really happened with Edwin DeWees. Even the replays were indecisive, it seems that Edwin had a cut with his own gloves.


The blood changed the color of his hair, and the bout was resumed, despite the cathartic condition the event of Ultimate Fighter 4 continued till the end. Gideon Ray took advantage and used the spinning kick that did not give the required result, Ray fell to the ground. On the other hand, Edwin was bleeding so badly that it was extremely difficult for him to manage his pace. The bloody fight ended and resulted in the victory of Edwin DeWees.

In the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), there have been alot of terrible and worst events, but in this article, we have explored the most cathartic scenarios. The fighters had gone through leg break, nose tilting, and head injuries and in some cases, the fighters looked completely different from their real appearance.


These injuries had a long-term impact on the lives of the fighters, some of the fighters had to take a break from their professional career. In spite of the tragic end and unpredictable moments of UFC events most of the fighters still wanted to become part of UFC.
