The rising welterweight contender, Gilbert Burns just nailed another UFC victory. He emerged victorious in a highly-anticipated co-main event of UFC 287 organized in Miami, Florida. Burns showcased his outstanding technical skills inside the octagon from the very start by gripping Masvidal's leg tightly. Due to his incredible performance, he scored a takedown in the final seconds of the first round.
The second round started with the punches of Gilbert Burns. All the efforts of Jorge Masvidal to stand out were nullified by the flurry of Burns’s barrage of punches. As the third and final round began, Burns continued his domination inside the octagon, landing blow after blow until Masvidal was almost unconscious.
Burns got the unanimous decision victory. Judges score the match as 30-27, 30-27, and 29, 28.
After losing the UFC 287 as his consecutive fourth match, Jorge Masvidal announced his retirement and gracefully ended his career.
“Sometimes, your favorite basketball player can’t hit the 3-pointer any more,” Masvidal said. “Sometimes your favorite quarterback loses that rifle. I don’t feel the same when I get in here any more. It’s been 20 years. I love all of you. The UFC came here 20 years ago and it inspired me to chase this dream.”
