Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Won Two Medals in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament

The legendary man behind Facebook and other Meta platforms is now seen as competing in BJJ competitions. In 2022, Mark Zuckerberg was invited to Joe Rogan’s podcast channel, PowerfulJRE, in which he claimed that he practices BJJ. And BJJ is what keeps him going on the hard days. He even called the gentle art, “primal”.

But this year, Mark Zuckerberg even competed in the BJJ competitions and won both tournaments. He competed at the 2023 BJJ Tour Silicon Valley High School in California on 6 May.

He is a White Belt in BJJ and trains under Dave Camarillo who is a Judo and BJJ Black Belt and is famous for his unique fighting style, Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu.

Mark Zuckerberg competed in the lightweight division and won a Silver medal in the Gi and a Gold medal in the No-Gi tournament. He fought under the Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu team banner.

Now, it has become a trend among celebrities to practice and compete in BJJ tournaments. But one must say that the trend is worth the hype as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu provides its practitioners with various leverages. Wiz Khalifa, the American Rapper is all set for his BJJ debut. The Hollywood actor, Tom Hardy was also seen competing in BJJ and currently, he is a BJJ Blue Belt.

“I really like watching UFC for example, but I also like doing the sport. It’s because I have a connection to it. Since COVID, I got super into surfing and foiling, and then really into MMA. I know a lot of people who do it. There’s actually this really interesting connection between people who surf and do Jiu-Jitsu, and I basically collected a bunch of recommendations, ran them by a bunch of people who I know, and I trained with this guy Dave Camarillo – Guerilla Jiu Jitsu – the crazy thing is, it really is the best sport.”
