Fabricio Andrey, Luiz Paulo, and Brenda Larissa are the three prominent personalities and are considered emerging stars in the BJJ world, representing the Melqui Galvao Jiu-Jitsu Academy for quite a long time now. However, the news related to these three BJJ stars leaving Melqui Galvao Jiu-Jitsu has surfaced and caused a lot of stir among the BJJ World, fans, and particularly Melqui Galvao. The news was confirmed by a post on Instagram from the official account of VF Comunica.

“Exclusive: Black belt trio leaves team Melqui Galvão.
The athletes Fabrício Andrey, Brenda Larissa, and Luiz Paulo are no longer part of the Melqui Galvão team. The trio will set out to explore new horizons for their careers. Sources close to VF Comunica confirmed the information.
The three stars won expressive titles. Fabricio Andrey (@fabricioandreyjj) was the world champion for the IBJJF, while Brenda (@blasbjj) won three titles at the World Pro in Abu Dhabi, and Luiz Paulo (@luizpaulobjj) shone in AJP tournaments and has several victories in super fights.
Sport is dynamic and always in motion. More details coming soon.”
Without a doubt, all three BJJ superstars are the masters of their art in their respective categories and division. All three of them leaving Melqui Galvao Jiu-Jitsu at the same time is a great loss to the academy and a matter of concern as well. It is unclear whether they have mutually decided to leave the team at the same time or if it is just a coincidence. Also, whether they are going to join the same Jiu-Jitsu Academy or planning to start their own is still to be confirmed.
If you want to have an idea of how big a loss it is, have a look at their stats and records. Fabricio Andrey has the most amazing BJJ career, especially the last two years have earned him the most records and championships, including:
- 1st Place at the 2021 IBJFF World Championship
- 1st Place at the 2021 AJP Grand Slam, MIA
- 1st Place at the 2023 IBJJF European Open
- 1st Place at the 2022 CBJJ Brazilian Nationals
Fabricio Andrey earned his black belt under the coaching of Melqui Galvao. He has earned a special place in BJJ sports by defeating some of the biggest competitors. He has fought a total of 90 matches and has secured 75 wins.
Meanwhile, Luiz Paulo is also considered one of the top BJJ athletes of the current generation and he was also trained at the Melqui Galvao gym. He has also secured 1st place at top BJJ events, including the AJP Grand Slam Championships and CBJJ Brazilian Nationals. Brenda Larissa is no less when it comes to sheer talent and techniques and is well-known as one of the emerging formidable grapplers in the current time.
It is sad to see the coach talking about how he feels about this loss to the Academy. Melqui Galvao also shared a heartfelt note in the comments section of VF Comunica’s Instagram post:
“When they didn’t even know how to tie the belts and no one bet anything on them I was there. When they left Manaus for São Paulo in search of new horizons, I continued there. When things didn’t work out for them in São Paulo and they asked me to help them win titles and build a name I was there. When things started working out I was there one more time and now that they are leaving I feel like I’ve accomplished my mission. I know exactly where I got each one of them from and I know exactly where they’d be if it weren’t for the miracle project acting in their lives. Rest in peace Luiz Paulo, Fabricio Andrey, and Brenda Larissa and if things go wrong one more time and you feel lonely with no one to turn to just call I’m coming I’m here one more time.”
The comment clearly shows Melqui Galvao’s grief over the decision of the 3 top BJJ athletes to leave the Academy. He put some light on his effort and contribution to their success. Melqui Galvao, on a positive note, has also said that the Melqui Galvao Jiu-Jitsu Academy is always open for them and they can return any time if things go wrong.
Other BJJ stars and Melqui Galvao’s competitors also sent their wishes to Fabricio Andrey, Luiz Paulo, and Brenda Larissa on leaving the Melqui Galvao Jiu-Jitsu.
Diogo Reis commented:
“May God bless this new stage in your life, my friends.”
Mica Galvao said:
“Good luck guys, let’s cheer for it all to happen. But you already know that if things don’t work out one more time here, the house is always yours.”
Stay tuned for more news and updates related to the BJJ world.
