Analysis Of The Top Performers At The IBJJF Rio Fall Open 2023

The IBJJF Rio Fall Open 2023 was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 1st and 2nd of April 2023, and featured both male and female competitors across various weight classes.


One of the most spectacular performances was of Victor Hugo Honorio. He won two Gold medals under the ultra-heavyweight and open-class categories. His performance in 2022 wasn’t that great but in 2023, he came all prepared to create history.

From the Team Cruz BJJ, Cleyton Rafael’s display of techniques was fabulous. In the open class category, he won the second position and earned Silver Medal. From the Fratres Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Rider Zuchi won the Gold in the heavyweight category. In the super heavyweight division, the first place was retained by Pedro Lucas. And let’s not forget about Oziel Santos, who was an absolute powerhouse on both days, taking home double gold in the rooster weight division in the Gi and the light-featherweight division in No-Gi.


But it wasn’t just the men who were dominating the mats at the IBJJF Rio Fall Open 2023. Gabrieli Pessanha was a force to be reckoned with in the women’s Gi divisions, winning double gold after a flawless performance in both the super-heavyweight and absolute divisions. Thaynara Dias, an impressive contender, won two medals in the heavyweight division and was defeated by Gabrieli Pessanha.


Jessica Dantas won the light-featherweight division, and Julia Alves won in the lightweight division. Karen Terra, secured gold in the featherweight division in both Gi and No-Gi. And Vitoria Vieira was simply unstoppable on day 2, winning both the No-Gi middleweight divisions and the No-Gi absolute division with an incredible power show of techniques, dominance, and skill.


Overall, the IBJJF Rio Fall Open 2023 was an incredible event that showcased the best of the best in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Congratulations to all the winners, and we can’t wait to see what amazing performances await us in the future!
