Jonas Andrade - Roosterweight Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt

Jonas Andrade was born in Bairro Planalto do Pici, a neighborhood located in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil.

When he was in his initial stages of growth, he played futsal, which is indoor soccer. While Jonas was practicing futsal, his interest also started developing in MMA.

He was inspired by various top mixed martial artists, and then based on his motivation, he joined Muay Thai coaching classes. He was just 13 years old when he started training in a Muay Thai gym under the supervision of coaches Thiago Cão and Eduardo “Cahorrão”.

During his gym training, he made a few friends, Luciano Kleiton and Thiago Cabeça. They trained in both jiu-jitsu and muay thai with Jonas, but he made fun of their practices. Ultimately his friends convinced him to train jiu-jitsu with them. Then, based on their efforts, the outcome was explained as “demolition” on the mats. This event urged Jonas Andrade to sign up for the grappling sessions on 12 February 2012.

Leandro Siva was Andrade’s first jiu-jitsu coach. Siva’s teachings caused him to take a deeper interest in the gentle art. 

In 2014, Jonas moved to São Paulo to participate in two significant championships, including the CBJJE World Championship and the IBJJF Rio Open. However, he faced some issues in returning due to traveling down the country. During the interval of both championships, he even requested to stay at the Cicero Costha Academy. The legendary master accepted his request and made some feasible preparations for his ease. When Jonas returned from São Paulo, he was mentally prepared to build his career in the BJJ world.

At the age of 17, Jonas Andrade moved back to São Paulo on a permanent basis. There he settled in a hostel that was actually the famous Fighter House of Cicero. Along with Jonas, some other athletes, who were sponsored by the team, were also settled there. He traveled across the world and got recognition as the top player in the colored belt division.

Throughout their traveling journey, Jonas learned a lot and developed a strong association with the Unity Jiu-Jitsu Academy. Murilo Santana was the head coach of the gym and also had a strong connection with the Cicero Costha team.

In 2018, Jonas Andrade was awarded the brown belt, but his journey to success continued as he earned the title of black belt in 2019. Murilo Santana and Cicero Costha were the prominent personalities at the award ceremony.

In the 2020  IBJJF Pan Championship, Jonas Andrade secured a remarkable victory by defeating Rene Rivera. Based on his greater points, the referee made a decision in Andrade’s favor.

In the 2019 Amsterdam Open Championship, Jonas Andrade defeated  Jarrah Alhazza. The audience witnessed an intense match as both competitors delivered  amazing grappling performances on the mat. Jonas Andrade attempted the cross-face choke and won the match.
