2. Kron Gracie’s Biography

"Jiu-Jitsu for sure will save your ass, one way or another. Not necessarily a physical fight but also being able to deal with yourself, know about yourself, and really improve yourself as a whole."
(Kron Gracie)

Kron Gracie, born on July 11, 1988, is the youngest son of jiu-jitsu master Rickson Gracie. He is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and judo. He has been named “Ice Cream Kron” for his aggressive combat style. He has won 51 matches consecutively at national and international tournaments. He is currently under a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

2.1. Kron Gracie’s Early life and Amateur Fighting

2.1.1. How did he start?

Kron Gracie Junior Belt Rank

Born into the Gracie family, Kron possessed a natural talent for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He began training under his father at a very early age. At the age of 10, he won his first competition as a yellow belt.

Choke, the legendary Rickson Gracie documentary from 1995, features an extremely young Kron Gracie, who can be seen competing with his father in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Impact of his Mentor’s Death

In December 2000, Kron Gracie's older brother Rockson Gracie passed away, bringing great distress to the Gracie family. Rockson was already a valued member of the family and his demise caused massive grief at home.

Determination of Young Kron Gracie

Although he was only 12 years old at the time, Kron quickly rose to the top of the media's priority list, being viewed as next in line to support the family's honor on the mats for the foreseeable future. Considering his competition record in the lower belt classes was remarkable, especially from his blue belt onward, Kron did not disappoint.

Pan Championship Debut

In 2005, he won his purple belt at the Pan Championship.

Multiple World Cup Record

In 2006, Kron won both the CBJJ World Cup and the IBJJF World Championship.

He received his brown belt in 2007 and became the Pan American and World Champion for the 4th time.

Kron Gracie Black Belt

At the age of 19, in 2008, Kron Gracie received his black belt from his Father Rickson Gracie.

In 2009, two days after the death of Grandmaster Helio Gracie, it was a very emotional day for Kron as he won the European Championship.

At the 2016 Rizin World Grand-Prix: Final Round, Kron achieved a massive win as he pinned Tatsuya Kawajiri and dominated using BJJ techniques.

Kron spent most of the fighting in the clinch during the first round, Kron threw a very rare pulled guard move and a rear-naked choke to keep the pressure on Tatsuya.

Kron was aggressive throughout the match as he applied various strikes and kept  slapping him in the head.

5. The Peculiarity of Kron Gracie

Kron Gracie learned directly from his father and utilizes a very basic style of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Kron does not opt for popular techniques. Rather, he relies on much simpler traditional styles.

Kron attacks ferociously and dominates the match in his own way. He never relies on the opponent to make a mistake. He plays open guard and is constantly attacking, responding, and countering.

Kron has experience in both judo and wrestling takedowns. His current style is very different from the current styles, as he mostly plays open guard, gets up, and immediately takes down the opponent.
