2. Matheus Felipe Xavier’s Biography

Matheus Xavier was a part of the famous Checkmat team. He got his BJJ training under Bruno and Thiago Baretto. He is one of the most respected BJJ fighters, his reputation is the fruit of his hard work.

Xavier at a very young age got his interest in martial arts by seeing his sister who was getting trained at that time. He is a black belt under Leonardo Vieira with the approval of Bruno and Thiago Baretto. Xavier has also earned the title of IBJJF. That is considered the most honorable title in the BJJ.

2.1. Matheus Xavier’s Early Life

Matheus Xavier spent his childhood in Natal a state in Northeastern Brazil. Then spent the other half of his life in Nova Natal burg.

Xavier was interested in martial arts and was learning Muay Thai. He also fought matches in Muay Thai before starting his career as a BJJ.

2.2. Matheus Nick Name

Matheus Xavier was very passionate about fighting and had an intense working routine. He used to have three training sessions every day, which was quite unusual for any fighter.

His work routine impressed his teammates and coaches so much that they started calling him “Ta Danado,” which is an expression in Portuguese that is commonly referred to as wow in English.

2.3. Matheus Xavier’s Coach name and BJJ Training

Matheus Xavier was 15 when he started his training in Thai boxing because of his interest in fighting. In the meantime, Xavier’s sister was already getting trained as a Jiu-Jitsu fighter, which shows Xavier was not the one who was interested in his house and started new, and no wonder why and from where he got his interest in BJJ.

At 16, Xavier joined Cristiano Tchê’s gym and, under his training, earned the blue belt.

2.4. Training under Barreto brothers

Xavier, to polish his skills after getting his blue belt from Cristiano, went to CheckMat RN. A gym run by Bruno Barretto and Thiago Baretto.

Xavier gained a lot of experience under the Baretto brothers and became one of the best athletes in some time.

After a few months of Xavier’s training, Bruno and Thiago both moved to Abu Dhabi to become a part of one of the projects for BJJ by the local Shiekhs.

2.5. Rising Star Program

Matheus Xavier, after his instructors went to Abu Dhabi, was lost, as he was unaware and had no coaching references.

But this situation lasted not longer than two to three months when Xavier himself was invited to Abu Dhabi to coach.

During Matheus Xavier’s stay in Abu Dhabi, coach Leo Vieira, the head of the CheckMat team created a program for the new BJJ learners and named it “The Rising Star” Program. He made this plan successful with the help of Alvin Phung and Frank Phung.

The purpose of this program is to provide free training and accommodation to newbies.

2.6. Matheus Xavier’s Black Belt

On September 3, 2018, under the coaching and guidance of the Baretto brothers, Matheus Xavier made it to the black belt.

Xavier received his black belt under Leonardo Vieira.
