2. Yan Lucas’s Biography
Yan Lucas is a wonderful BJJ black belt and is commonly known as “Pica-Pau”. He trained and received his black belt under the supervision of Pirillo Roriz. Lucas is also a representative of Gracie Barra Academy. Yan Lucas has enormous achievements in multiple BJJ competitions, such as the American National Championship and the IBJJF World Championship. Due to his incredible fighting abilities, he defeated the top jiu-jitsu competitors, including Isaac Doederlin, Hiago George, Mahamed Aly, and many more.
2.1. Early Life of Yan Lucas
At the age of 11, Yan Lucas developed a basic understanding of BJJ. Pirillo Roriz was the one who provided the initial BJJ training classes to Lucas. One of his close friends and the former training partner of his father also trained him a lot. Yan Lucas was a great admirer of his father and he learned a lot from him. He once shared that his father taught him some important lessons without saying a single word. He said:
‘’You gotta be tough and go pursue your dreams. That’s what I see him doing since he was very young and that’s what I’m daily teaching my little one. Never complaining about how hard life is but always fighting hard to build a better life.’’
2.2. The First Tournament of Yan’s Wife
Yan’s wife, Jessica, competed in her first BJJ tournament at their first anniversary. His love for his wife is infinite as he said:
‘’This journey with you has been extremely fun and full of learning. Because of you, I became a better man, a better person, coach, and athlete, and most importantly: now I’m a father. I could spend days talking about you and our beautiful family but I’m gonna make it short: Our happiness, success, and love are just in the beginning.’’
2.3. The Prominence of Yan’s Professional BJJ Career
Although Yan’s entire career has been full of marvelous performances, his most prominent achievement in the world of jiu-jitsu was his victory in the 2017 American Nationals in the absolute division. After winning the title at the IBJJF World Championship, Lucas stayed in California for a longer time period and then participated in the American National Championship. He competed against Mahamed Aly, a brown belt competitor. He was a super heavyweight BJJ athlete in the American Nationals final. After this match, he also earned gold medals in the American Nationals of the lightweight division.

In the 2023 Dallas Open Championship, Yan Lucas competed against Mateus Rodrigues. Mateus attempted multiple takedowns and earned points. Yan Lucas also tried the head choke technique against Mateus; however, based on the referee's decision, Mateus Rodrigues was declared the winner.
