2. Andre Porfirio’s Biography
Andre Porfirio’s complete name is André Luiz Novaes Porfirio. He is a young BJJ Black Belt fighter under the instructor Roberto Abreu also known as Cyborg who worked with renowned Jiu-Jitsu instructor Cicero Costha and the Projecto Social Lutando Pelo Bem (PSLPB) team in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Porfirio started his Jiu-jitsu career by participating in various major national and international events such as IBJJF American Nationals, IBJJF Pan Championship NOGI, IBJJF European Open, IBJJF Pan Championship, and Brazilian Nationals Juvenile are worth mentioning here. He successfully attained 4 World titles with IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation) which eventually led him to colored belt divisions.
2.1. Andre Porfirio’s Early Life
Andre Porfirio was born on November 24, 1997, in Santos, a municipality in Sao Paulo Brazil. He was chubby from a very young age and joined a Thai boxing gym under the instruction of his father to lose weight . Porfirio added Karate to his extra-curricular activities. He also played soccer for some time but due to excessive running, he left it. In July 2011, Porfirio added Jiu Jitsu training to his plan under the coaching of Alexandre Ranieri. He got strongly attracted to Jiu Jitsu and after 3 months, he decided to join Valdir Canuto (Tio Chico) academy to get a strong grip on the sport. In December 2012, he moved to Sao Paulo to get full-time training under Cicero Costha. During the competition in the USA, Porfirio got an offer to join as a coach at Renzo Gracie Academy affiliate in Orlando, Florida which he accepted. He had a great love for the place but when he felt dull and lost interest in such a less competitive environment, he decided to leave Renzo Gracie Academy.
2.2. Andre Porfirio’s Lower Rank Advancement
After losing the first five tournaments, Porfirio never lost hope and struggled hard. He was promoted from white belt to blue, purple, and eventually, brown belt ranks under Cicero Costha, one of the country’s most respected BJJ instructors.
2.3. Andre Porfirio’s Black Belt Promotion
Porfirio joined Roberto Cyborg‘s Fight Sports in Miami in 2019. His stay in Miami proved to be productive, leading him to the promotion to the black belt in an event led by Roberto Abreu on June 17, 2020. At black belt rank, he won titles at IBJJF Pan Championship, AJP Grand Slam, MIA; IBJJF American Nationals, Midwest Finishers SO, IBJJF World Championship, ADCC Brazilian Trials 1 and ADCC Brazilian Trials 2.

Porfirio, a 27-year-old BJJ fighter has a professional record of approximately 156 fights with 123 wins and 33 losses. His majority wins are via Botinha and outside heel hook.
2.5. Andre Porfirio’s Current Status
Andre Porfirio is a 27-year-old active BJJ fighter. As per the IBJJF news post , Due to multiple violations in the Anti-Doping Rules, an independent arbitrator imposed a four-year sanction on Andre Porfirio on November 28, 2023. Porfirio escaped twice from urine sample collection by running off the venue at the World No-Gi Championship in December 2022. He confessed to the use of the substance testosterone before going to the World No-Gi Championship. Testosterone and its metabolites were found in his test sample collected on December,20 leading to a violation. Such powerful performance-enhancing substances give athletes an unfair benefit over fellow competitors. His four-year sanction began on March 21, 2023. He has been disqualified from a competitive result obtained in competitions sanctioned by the IBJJF.
