ole Abate made his debut in the ONE championship on December 6th, 2024, against Shinya Aoki. The twenty-year-old Ice ‘Cole’ is a black belt American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) star. No one was considering him a favorite for the match.


The match was played in Thailand in ONE Fight Night 26. As he said before the match, “I like leg attacks”; that is exactly what he did in the game against the Japanese star. He made him tap out by heel hook.


He was playing against Shinya Aoki. Shinya is a legendary Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) star who has won many titles under his name. 


The forty-one-year-old Japanese legend got many nicknames for his wonderful achievements in BJJ, such as “The Grand Master of Flying Submissions” or “The Baka Survivor.” That loss was a complete setback for him.


Cole started BJJ at just five years old. Although he has not won a world championship title, he has won many juvenile titles. He is also the youngest one to win Abu Dhabi Combat Championship trials. He is a black belt and got many wins over black belts before this match.


After taking the stunning victory over the Japanese MMA star, he said,

"And it feels amazing. I always say I'm a student of the game, so I'm always studying, always looking to evolve my game, and he's somebody that I've watched over the years, especially having there being submissions named after him; I mean, it doesn't get much better than that."

Cole was ready and very excited to play against Japanese Star;

To fight him in Asia, where he’s got a lot of fans, where he’s known as a legend, where he has techniques named after him that you only find out that, ‘Oh, hey, the Aoki Lock isn’t just the Aoki Lock. There’s a guy behind it.'”

Cole expressed his excitement for the match by mentioning ONE and Asian stars. He said that ONE is one of the largest platforms in all combat sports. He also said that making a debut against a Japanese legend on the biggest platform, ONE, was terrific, and his victory was incredible.
