Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a game that attracts people of all professions and races to it. Whether you are a famous person or not, you cannot live without liking this popular sport. Even the celebrities have themselves captured in the BJJ fever. Many celebrities have been viral many times for playing BJJ games with their partners or their friends. Some of these celebrities play BJJ regularly whereas others like to play this on and off. The reason why this game is so popular among celebrities is the fact that BJJ is a fashionable sport. Many celebrities post their photos wearing Gi and playing BJJ to attract BJJ fans. Following are some female celebrities who are very famous and train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
1. Scarlett Johansson
When you think about the Hollywood actresses, the first name that comes to your mind is Scarlett Johansson if you are a true Marvel fan. She is one of the most watched Hollywood actresses. Scarlett Johansson is a very famous Hollywood actress. She became famous because of her acting roles in Marvel movies such as The Avengers, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, etc. Scarlett was first introduced to the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu when she was training for her acting role in the marvel movie.
She has to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to fulfill her acting role in the Marvel movie. This was the first time when Scarlett had an interaction with the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu game. While training during her movie role, she started liking the game and became interested in training BJJ. She not only did BJJ training for her Marvel movie acting role, but she also continued her BJJ training even after the movie. Their interest found in movie acting led Scarlett to get into the BJJ gym to train BJJ regularly.
She joined the BJJ academy “The Academy Beverly Hills,” which is in the United States of America. This is a gym in which Rigan Machado teaches and trains BJJ. Scarlett Johanson trains BJJ under Rigan in this gym. She started training in 2016 and has been training since then. Scarlett Johansson was never known as a "kick butt" action star until her role in Iron Man 2 in 2012. To prepare for the role of Super Hero, Black Widow, she trained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, wrestling, and MMA.
She's continued her martial arts training throughout her career & her strength shows! She's made her Black Widow character into one of the strongest and most recognizable Avengers, more than holding her own with a group of powerful men.
2. Margot Robbie
Margot Robbie, famously known as ‘Barbie’, has also trained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She is an Australian actress. But just like Scarlett Johanson, she did not train BJJ for her own interest. She has to train BJJ for her movie role, Harley Quinn, in the suicide squad movie. She started training BJJ for the movie role, but then she gradually became interested in the BJJ game.
She trained BJJ and worked very hard just to get her role in the movie. She used to train BJJ three to four times a week. She trained BJJ for almost five to six months. This training for a long period is enough to call her a white belt in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
3. Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato is a very famous American singer. She is also an actress and has played various acting roles in Disney and other television series. Besides being an American singer, actress, and songwriter, we all can call her a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athlete. Demi trains BJJ regularly. She has been doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for many years. According to her BJJ trainer and instructor, Chris Light, Demi Lovato started training BJJ four years ago.
Although her main focus is acting and singing, she has taken BJJ seriously. Her hard work and consistent training for BJJ has earned her a purple belt last year. She surprised everyone by reaching the purple belt. She got the purple belt in less time than other BJJ practitioners, proving to everyone that she is also a good BJJ athlete. She takes BJJ training privately. It means that she does not roll with any other BJJ practitioner or student.
4. Millie Bobby Brown
Millie Bobby Brown Bongiovi became famous with her acting role in the famous netflix television series ‘Stranger Things’. She acted as Eleven in the series. Among all the other actors and actresses in the television series, she became the most popular. People liked her role very much. Brown is a British actress. She is younger than all other female actresses who do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Brown had her first interaction with the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu when she was selected for her movie role in Stranger Things.
She trained and worked very hard for this role. She said about her movie role that the training made her acting role very difficult, but she enjoyed it alot. She is a BJJ white belt and has two stripes on her belt. After Stranger Things, Brown was selected for her new movie, Enola Holmes.
After training BJJ for her acting role in Stranger Things, Brown also trained BJJ for her new movie. So we can say that she has some experience in training BJJ. Whether she is still training BJJ or not is not known. She has not made it to her social media or in any interview regarding her BJJ training currently.
5. Katherine Elizabeth Upton
Katherine Elizabeth Upton, famously known as Kate Upton, is an American actress and model. She got the recognition when Sports Illustrated posted her on their issues in 2011. She continued to be on Sports Illustrated issues after 2011 and was the cover model for many issues. Kate said that she was very interested in BJJ and was obsessed with it.
She started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu four years ago, in 2020. She trained BJJ for some months and got the white belt. After getting the white belt, she posted on her social media with her photo with the white belt. She wrote the caption that she has got many BJJ belts for free but she has earned this white belt for the very first time.
6. Last Words
Currently, many actors and actresses around the world are training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The list of all these actors and actresses can never be complete. Because each year, many new actors and actresses start training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. They do this training for two reasons. One reason is that they train BJJ as a fashion. The second reason is that BJJ has many benefits for your health. It improves both your mental and physical health and keeps you energetic and active. BJJ serves both these purposes very well. That is the reason why you see many celebrities around the globe who have started training or have been training for many years now. Even the celebrities who started training BJJ for their acting roles in the movies later on became interested in the game. And continued training for the rest of their lives.
