Lilian Marchand, an 18-year-old Canadian girl, won the 16 th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu championship. This was the first time she played in this tournament, and she won, defeating the fan’s favorites. In the finals, she played against Sabatha Santos.
She was playing her first tournament as a brown belt holder and received the rank just one month ago.
Lilian is in dream form in the current year. Previously, in the same year, she won the 2024 International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) in the purple belt division. After that win, she was awarded a brown belt. Lilian also won the Pan-American championships in the medium heavyweight division. At the Brasileiro tournament, she won double gold. And now, she has won her first-ever Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu championship.
In the last season, she won the grand slam, becoming the first-ever female Canadian, and that too at the young age of 18. She also competed in AJP Rio, where she played against black belts. She won her first two matches against blacks. She won in the quarterfinals but lost in the semi-finals by a few points.
The 16th Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu championship was conducted in UAE. The tournament was conducted from November 6th to 16th. There were surprising winners throughout the tournament, with young girls winning most of the games. Favorites of the tournaments could not manage to live up to the fans' expectations.
The tournament produces surprising results. Among the black belts, Only Maria Delahaye and Yara Soares won the gold in the tournament. Light-heavy weight was won by Fellipe Andrew, with Felipe Bezerra winning the super-heavyweight. Grasielle Brandao was also in her peak form, winning three matches in a row and losing only one.
