Master Francisco Jose Mansor - 9th Grade Red Belt in Jiu-Jitsu

Francisco Jose Mansor has been part of Brazilain jiu-jitsu for over five decades, Master Francisco is a 9th-degree red belt in BJJ. He is a student of Master Helio Gracie, he has the prestige of getting the rank directly from Helio Gracie. Mansor is the sixth member outside the Gracie family who has received a professor degree from a Grand Master.

Master Francisco Jose is the founder of “Academia Kioto de Jiu-Jitsu”. Mansor is the founder of a jiu-jitsu training center named “Kioto”, considered one of the leading training academies of BJJ. Francisco Jose is the president of the “Master Council”

Francisco Jose Mansor was born in the land of jiu-jitsu, in November 1939. Soon he was introduced to the martial arts of Brazilian jiu-jitsu by his father. Mansor was influenced to enhance his martial arts skills, but at first, he continued his studies. 

Francisco Jose Mansor is known as “Chico” in his official language Portuguese. Chico is the shortcut to call Francisco.

Francisco became a profound judo practitioner, and he was best at takedowns and throws.

Francisco Jose has an extreme desire to be part of jiu-jitsu, but he was not financially strong enough to overcome the expense of training under Helio Gracie . When he was training in judo, Mansor read a newspaper article that stated that the “art of judo is for coward”.

Master Mansor showed up at Helio Gracie Academy and asked if he wanted to fight with one of his students, to which Gracie agreed. Francisco was good in the takedowns and throws, but the opponent was profound in applying the chokes and submissions.

As the bout continued, Francisco accidentally got hit and started to bleed; Gracie stopped the fight and asked are you here for the fight? To which Francisco replied, “I am not a coward”. Gracie told him you do not have to prove anything. We have seen your talent, and you can be part of jiu-jitsu. This special event opened up new avenues for Francisco Jose.

In a ceremony, Jose Mansor was formally introduced to BJJ. Francisco Jose took a break from his studies and switched to jiu-jitsu. He was only fifteen years old when he started training under the legendary Master Helio Gracie. They have spent fifty-eight years together. Master Francisco regards Helio Gracie as his second father.

Master Francisco Jose has been a law enforcement officer for about thirty-five years. The dedicated contender has worked as a “Self Defense Instructor” at a Rio de Janeiro Police Academy. Mansor was leading various troop units and performed several duties related to law enforcement.
