Max Gimenis: Top Super Heavyweight BJJ Competitor

Max Gimenis is one of the top Black Belts representing the GF Team. He was born in Brazil on 14th April 1993. Gimenis was trained under the coaching of Mater Júlio César Pereira and has become a top fighter in the Super Heavyweight category. Max won the title of World Champion in various competitions like Pan, World, and Brasileiro. 

Max Gimenis started his career in sports at a Judo Club. In that club, martial arts training was also offered. Max was interested in martial arts from the tender age of 10. After some time his interest in martial arts narrowed down to Grappling martial art BJJ.

Herman Santos was the head coach of that Judo club. Max started his BJJ career under the supervision of Herman Santos. Santos inspired him so much and appreciated his interest in grappling. Resultantly, Max became an ambitious and focused BJJ practitioner.

At the age of 15, Max relocated to Guarapari as a Blue Belt. Guarapari is a coastal town situated in the state of Espírito Santo. After relocation, Max did not stop his training and joined the Strike Academy. Here he was trained under the coaching of Thiago Oliveira. Strike Academy was famous due to its association with Fernanda Mazzelli, a female champion and a top figure in BJJ. 

Max Gimenis decided to join BJJ as a professional competitor. He moved back to Rio de Janeiro and this time GF academy became his home. He used to live in the gym and started a passionate and focused BJJ training to become the best.

After returning from Guarapari, Gimenis's grappling career took flight. Due to his increasing submission rate in various championships, Master Júlio César Pereira promoted Gimenis to the Purple Belt in 2012 and Brown Belt in 2015.  

Max Gimenis continued his journey with BJJ with the association of GF Academy. Gimenis got his Black Belt on the mat of the IBJJF World Championship in 2016 from his coach Master Júlio César Pereira and won the title of world champion.

At that time Max Gimenis was wholeheartedly dedicated to BJJ. He showcased his dedication and passion for BJJ by conducting seminars and started teaching BJJ to the new generation. The seminar was held in Columbia on 2nd March 2019. Participants of all ages and belt ranks were entertained in that seminar.   

In this bout, Max Gimenis was fighting with Brazilian Champion Renan Vieira in the 2019 World Championship. Max Gimenis dominated Vieira from the start of the match. He applied a half-guard and during that half-guard position, Vieira tried to submit Max with an Ankle Lock but Max escaped.

In the end, Max Gimenis put his elbow on his chest, and Renan submitted him with a Wrist Lock.

In this fight, Max Gimenis faced D.Johnson in the quarter-final of 2020 Pan Championship. At the start of the match, Max put his weight on Johnson to pin him on the mat. Max succeeded in putting him in Turtle's position. But after struggling for a while, Johnson escaped. Meanwhile, Johnson exposed his back and Max took advantage of the opportunity and strangled him from the back collar choke and got the submission.

At the end of the match, Max submitted Johnson by the Collar Choke from the back.

In this fight, Max Geminis faced AJ Agazarm in the 2021 IBJJF World. AJ Agazarm is an American BJJ fighter.

At the start of the match, Max initiated a takedown with full force and put his weight on him. Agazarm tried to take advantage and applied a Knee Lock and then a wrist lock. Max escaped from his knee Lock. Max tried to apply an Armbar but couldn’t finish the submission. Then Geminis applied an armbar and leg lock.

At the end of the match, Gimenis won the match with 11x0 points.
