Gustavo Batista - UAEJJF The King Of Mats

He is a BJJ Black Belt under Leandro Lo who is an 8-time IBJJF Black Belt World Champion.

Gustavo Batista was born on 11 March, 1996 in Florianopolis which is the capital of Southern Brazil’s State of Santa Catarina.

He was a football (soccer) player. From the very start, he was interested in competitive sports. Until the age of 15, he played football and was an agile athlete.

Gustavo’s brother practiced BJJ when Gustavo was 15. He gained interest from his brother and joined a BJJ academy. At that time he just wanted to learn BJJ, with no decided future in this sport.

His first instructor, Felipe Teixeria, awarded him with his Blue Belt. After getting a Blue Belt, Gustavo decided to pursue BJJ professionally.

He was also called Braguinha because of his similar facial features to the former BJJ World Champion Antonio Braga Neto.

When he decided to become a professional BJJ athlete, he moved to Sao Paulo and joined Projeto Social Lutando Pelo Bem Gym (PSLPB). The founder of this gym was Cicero Costha.

At PSLPB, Gustavo met Leandro Lo and he learned a lot from him and later got his Black Belt from Leandro Lo.

When Leandro Lo left PSLPB, Batista left it too. Leandro Lo became the head coach at New Brotherhood Jiu-Jitsu.

After gaining his Purple and Brown Belts, he earned the rank of “Number 1 Brown Belt in the World'' by UAEJJF. He defeated many famous and strong Black Belts.

After Gustavo’s historic success at UAEJJF, he was promoted to Black Belt by Leandro Lo in October 2017.

In 2019, he won the title of UAEJJF King of Mats. He won 5 fights in the middleweight category.

Gustavo was ranked as the number 1 Brown Belt by UAEJJF. While being a Brown Belt, he defeated several Black Belts. This is something out-of-the-box extraordinary and consequently, he earned the attention and respect of the whole BJJ community.

Gustavo competed as a Black Belt in Abu Dhabi Jiu Jitsu Pro. He also won the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu in 2018 and 2019.

At the start of this match, Gustavo was very explosive. He tried to apply the heel hook despite the aggressive nature of Langaker. Langaker tried to takedown Batista but his strong balance did not let him fall. Gustavo won the fight by points. 

The fight between Gustavo Batista and Christopher Passerrello was a phenomenal one. Gustavo submitted Passerrello by applying the submission of Mounted X Choke in only 2 minutes and 23 seconds.

The game of Batista was very explosive and offensive. He successfully applied the scissor sweep from the guard position. His fast sweeps made him invincible to his opponent’s attacks.

He got the dominant back position and made it difficult for Cardoso to decipher his moves. Gustavo secured 2 points from the scissor sweep. Cordoso fainted due to the RNC and Batista won the match.

This fight was a tough one as Silva started the fight with a very explosive style. He was very fast in getting into dominant positions throughout the match. When Silva tried to gain the dominant position, he was pushed down by Batista’s fast sweeps. Batista won by 4 points. Gustavo submitted Silva to Kneebar.

Batista is known for his clean techniques and guard passing. He won the match in 4 minutes and 46 seconds.

Spirandeli tried to hold Batista by his collar and cuff grips but Batista did astray game plan. Batista gained 2 points from the sweep. Spirandeli trapped one leg of Batista and tried to apply the leg lock. Batista started the match with a slower pace but then gained speed and did not let Spirandeli score any points or let him execute any submission technique.
