He is a BJJ Black Belt under Leandro Lo who is an 8-time IBJJF Black Belt World Champion.
2.1. Gustavo Batista’s Early Life
Gustavo Batista was born on 11 March, 1996 in Florianopolis which is the capital of Southern Brazil’s State of Santa Catarina.
Gustavo Batista as A Football Player
He was a football (soccer) player. From the very start, he was interested in competitive sports. Until the age of 15, he played football and was an agile athlete.
Interested in BJJ
Gustavo’s brother practiced BJJ when Gustavo was 15. He gained interest from his brother and joined a BJJ academy. At that time he just wanted to learn BJJ, with no decided future in this sport.
Gustavo Batista Earned Blue Belt
His first instructor, Felipe Teixeria, awarded him with his Blue Belt. After getting a Blue Belt, Gustavo decided to pursue BJJ professionally.
Nicknamed Braguinha
He was also called Braguinha because of his similar facial features to the former BJJ World Champion Antonio Braga Neto.
Moved to Sao Paulo
When he decided to become a professional BJJ athlete, he moved to Sao Paulo and joined Projeto Social Lutando Pelo Bem Gym (PSLPB). The founder of this gym was Cicero Costha.
Met Leandro Lo
At PSLPB, Gustavo met Leandro Lo and he learned a lot from him and later got his Black Belt from Leandro Lo.
Joined NS Brotherhood Academy
When Leandro Lo left PSLPB, Batista left it too. Leandro Lo became the head coach at New Brotherhood Jiu-Jitsu.

After gaining his Purple and Brown Belts, he earned the rank of “Number 1 Brown Belt in the World'' by UAEJJF. He defeated many famous and strong Black Belts.
Promoted to Black Belt
After Gustavo’s historic success at UAEJJF, he was promoted to Black Belt by Leandro Lo in October 2017.
UAEJJF King of Mats
In 2019, he won the title of UAEJJF King of Mats. He won 5 fights in the middleweight category.
Ranked Number 1 Brown Belt by UAEJJF

Gustavo competed as a Black Belt in Abu Dhabi Jiu Jitsu Pro. He also won the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu in 2018 and 2019.
