To elevate BJJ within UFC, Mike Musumeci signed an agreement with the UFC as UFC’s CEO announced on Thursday night.
Previously, Dana White said he continuously tries to develop the best BJJ program and take it to another level. He said that:
“Since last year, I’ve been working on developing the best Brazilian jiu-jitsu program in the world. I am excited to announce that we’ve signed Mikey Musumeci to the first ever exclusive BJJ promotional agreement in the company’s history.”
Moving to X.com, he posted:
“BOOOOOOM!!!! We are about to take BJJ to a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL.”
Mickey Musumeci is one of the best BJJ players in the world right now. Mikey Musumeci has won the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) world championships five times. Many players consider him the top BJJ player in the world. No one has defeated him in the last eight years.
Later, Dana said this was the ‘first of many’ contracts as efforts were being made to sign many other players with UFC. He promised to elevate BJJ and make it the best game in the world.
Mikey will play his first match under this agreement on December 5, 2025, against Felipe Machado.
“I feel like (UFC is) finally another platform that could expand our sport to people that wouldn’t typically watch jiu-jitsu. For now, we’re just doing the Fight Pass Invitationals. UFC has very big plans for grappling. I don’t think I’m allowed to talk about them yet. Just know that there are very big plans for grappling coming from the UFC.”
Mikey said that UFC had a lot of plans. He said that he can’t talk about those plans to anyone but be ready for many big things coming soon from UFC.
While talking about signing another player, he said:
They’re going to sign) everyone! They’re trying to take over jiu-jitsu like they have MMA. They’re going to do exactly what they did for MMA. They’re going to have a grappling league. We’re just going to grow the sport even more than it has been rapidly growing.
Previously, Mikey was on contract with ONE and played games in ONE championship. But he played only seven times under that agreement. Matches Mickey played under ONE championship in three years were less than those that he played in 2021 alone.
So this was a better move made by him as he is a top BJJ player, and he had to face only a few players in the last three years due to being in contract with ONE Championship.
28 years old, Mikey recently won his tenth consecutive victory. Mikey, who left this organization earlier this month, will now play under this new BJJ promotional agreement. He has made a good decision regarding switching organizations because of the number of games played in the ONE championship.
