2.1. Who is Jonnatas Gracie?
Jonnatas Gracie is a well-known black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He is one of those BJJ competitors who attained first place in various top BJJ tournaments. His association with Atos Jiu-Jitsu Academy is considerably strong. Gracie is renowned for employing different kinds of sweep positions, mostly he used lasso guard sweeps. He also used various thrilling combinations of sweep and submission to secure victory over his opponents.
2.2. Jonnatas Gracie Early Life Phase
Jonnatas Gracie was born on 9 June 1997 in Natal, Brazil. When Gracie was 11 years old, his family migrated to São Paulo. Then he first entered into the BJJ world at the age of 14. He decided to participate in jiu-jitsu after being influenced by the children of his neighborhood.
2.3. Jonnatas’s First Grappling Coach
Jonnatas Gracie was enrolled in the Ryan Gracie Jiu-jitsu academy and trained under the supervision of Master Fran do Carmo.
2.4. Turning point in Jonnatas’s BJJ Career
In 2014, Jonnatas Gracie met Luiz Guilherme who first initiated the Guigo JJ Team. This meeting was the main milestone in Gracie’s jiu-jitsu career. Guilherme offered a scholarship to Gracie after discovering his potential for BJJ. He asked Gracie to strongly pay attention to learning grappling. Gracie accepted the offer and left his studies to completely focus on his jiu-jitsu career.
2.5. Jonnatas’s Self-Assurance
Jonnatas Gracie had a strong belief in his expertise as he faced various top BJJ competitors without considering their weight division. Gracie left the BJJ community in staggered condition when he reached the semi-final stage of ADCC Brazilain trials and as a purple belt secured victory against the three veterans.
Once Gracie was asked about his childhood inspiration, he said:
‘’I always say that the biggest examples I have are the people with whom I share my day. The ones that live by my side, these are the guys I idolize’’.

Jonnatas’s Grappling record is highly impressive as he secured victory in a series of top championships including the IBJJF World Championship NOGI, IBJJF Pan Championship, IBJJF European Open, and many more.
2.7. Jonnatas Joined the Atos Jiu-Jitsu Academy
In 2017, Jonnatas Gracie got the splendid opportunity to join the Atos Jiu-Jitsu Academy where he learned under André Galvão. Under his tutelage, Gracie earned both brown and black belts and then contributed significantly to BJJ as a strong Atos Team’s influencing member.

In 2021, the IBJJF Mediumweight GP tournament was held in which two top black belts, Jonnatas Gracie and Otavio Sousa competed against each other. Both BJJ fighters showcased their phenomenal jiu-jitsu skills but ultimately Gracie won the match based on the referee's decision.
