UFC star Jack Shore has announced that he is calling off his career. Moving to Instagram, he posted about his decision to retire. He wrote a long note to thank the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) for fulfilling his childhood dream of becoming the UFC star. He surprised fans by his decision of retirement at 29.
“As what may surprise a few, I’ve decided to hang up the gloves in my professional fighting career. After fighting out my contract and thinking about what’s next, it’s clear that my time with professional fighting is over.”
The veteran UFC star was under contract with the UFC. The contract was supposed to end this Wednesday. After the contract ended, he decided he would not play in any more UFC matches. He said he would shift his focus towards coaching and spending time with the family.
“Although I had the chance to re-sign with UFC, I’ve decided my time is done. I want to thank the UFC for letting me live out my childhood dream of fighting for the world's biggest organization against some of the best in the world; I’ve enjoyed every minute!”
He spent his 20's playing and training for the UFC to be among the top players of the UFC. He could not spend time with family as the UFC was his sole focus. Jake posted on his Instagram.
Although he could sign contracts with many other organizations, he decided to retire.
“For the entirety of my 20's, fighting and training was my life and sole focus, however, the last few weeks/months have shown this is no longer the case.”
Jake also mentioned some of his coaches in his retirement announcement. He thanked them for being with him and training him all these years.
Jake Shore enjoyed his UFC career with impressive figures of 17-3. He lost only three matches. Surprisingly, he faced these three losses in the last stage of his career. Out of his last four matches, he managed to win only one match and lost three matches.
A few days after losing the third match, he decided to retire and posted it on Instagram. He played his last career match against Youssef Zalal, who defeated him in the second round via submission.
Jake also got few nicknames in his career such as “Tank” and “Welsh GSP”. He was named tank because his fighting style was similar to former mixed martial artist Tank Abbott. He is often called as Jake Tank Shore. He got the nickname “Welsh GSP’ because he was compared with Georges St-Pierre. He is a Welsh UFC fighter. Hence the nickname “Welsh GSP”.
Although he had an impressive career, Jake could not end his career on a winning note.
